Low Load System Efficiency - The Key to Heat Pump Performance

Presented by:   Christopher Dymond

Monday, March 25 from 7:00 AM until 8:15 AM, Sonoma D

Heat pump performance is measured at maximum output, but comfort and energy efficiency are greatly affected by how the equipment operates under low-load conditions, which is most of the time! Most heat pumps do not operate more efficiently at low-load. Some variable capacity heat pump systems are 25% to 50% more efficiently during low-load conditions. Knowing why this is important and how to find those products deliver better performance can improve customer energy bills and comfort without buying a more expensive system. During this session, Christopher Dymond from the Northwest Energy Efficiency Alliance (NEEA) will present the latest research on low-load efficient heat pumps and share how to select variable speed heat pumps that deliver their best performance during mild outdoor conditions. Presentation will be moderately technical, targeted to instructors and manufacturer agnostic.
