You Know It, but Can You Teach It?

Presented by:   Dirk Nauman

Teaching is a different skill that requires a new way of thinking to become an expert HVACR instructor. Students cannot learn the same way the instructor learned HVACR. Many field technicians who venture into education are field experts in HVACR and perform efficiently at the task due to the “second nature” of their skills. However, according to the “Four stages of competence,” these individuals who perform in the field with “unconscious competence” are not able to teach without learning new skills. In this session, attendees will evaluate 3 methods of understanding themselves and others through DiSC, Noel Burch Competence Model, and the Dunning Kruger Effect. You cannot teach what you don’t know you know. This is how your intelligence can make you an ineffective instructor.
