Strategies for Combining Refrigerant and Air Side Topics in Your Teaching

This session will provide strategies for helping students grasp the often-difficult topics of refrigeration cycle and psychometrics, traditionally taught as separate sections which then have to be combined through mental logic. By showing how each is related to the other by displaying the processes as basic heat flows, students will get a clearer picture of what a refrigeration AC or dehumidifier does and its effects on the air side. Latent and sensible heat, as well as superheat and subcooling will be covered in depth. How humidification and dehumidification can be best achieved through straight forward processes that are easy to describe and for students to grasp are also covered. Help your students grasp what goes on under the hood of your typical AC or refrigeration system.
